You will receive your cake cold. It is purposely done this way for stability reasons when transporting your cake to its destination. I always suggest if you have errands to run, do them first. Especially on warmer days. A cake will shift if it gets to room temperature during transport. For long journeys I suggest placing it in a cooler. If you are taking your cake home, then to an event. Keep it in the fridge. Lastly: transport your cake on the floor. A solid base will be more sturdy.
Butter is the base of the buttercream. When it is cool or cold it will be firm. If you allow it to reach room temperature it will be creamiest!
You can both freeze or refridgerate your cakes or cupcakes. You want to eat them at room temperature though so ensure enough time that they are able to reach that before consuming.
